Fewer CIOs Taking Steps to Safeguard Company Data
TORONTO, March 1, 2018 /CNW/ - With the recent rise in cybersecurity attacks, what are Canadian companies doing to protect their information? Less than they were three years ago, according to a new survey by Robert Half Technology. Fifty per cent of Canadian CIOs are taking steps to enhance IT security for their company today, nearly a 20-percentage point decrease from a similar survey in 2015.
However, for those advancing security measures in 2018, a higher percentage are adding IT security personnel (40 per cent) and implementing multifactor authentication processes (40 per cent), each increasing nearly 20 per cent from 2015.
CIOs were asked, "Which, if any, of the following measures is your company currently taking, or planning to take within the next 12 months to enhance IT security? Is your company…?"

"Sophisticated digital attacks have become increasingly common, and companies need to go beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to effectively safeguard their data," said Deborah Bottineau, a district director for Robert Half Technology. "The best prepared companies are those whose technology leaders are committed to an adaptive, evolving and robust IT security strategy; one that includes staying on top of emerging tools, making regular process enhancements, and providing employees with the resources to preemptively identify and avoid vulnerabilities."
For IT security to be successful, the right team makes all the difference, added Bottineau. "Cybersecurity professionals are not only highly specialized, they're also highly sought after. When hiring skilled security staff, act quickly to assess their credentials and fit, and engage them with a competitive and comprehensive offer."
