-OECD Report Suggests the Need to Find More Effective Ways to Integrate Technology in Teaching & Learning-
TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - The stage is set for the 6th Annual Canadian EdTech Leadership Summit on Tuesday, October 27 at the MaRS Discovery District.
It's never been a more vital time to connect industry & education thought leaders given that $76 Billion (according to the OECD) is spent annually around the globe on learning technology. The recent Global OECD Education Technology report challenged educators to make better use of technology purchases. "The apparent lack of improved student performance according to the study, speaks to the need to explore and redefine Canada's digital learning landscape through collaborative partnerships between education and business," says Robert Martellacci, Chair, Canadian EdTech Leadership Summit.
Andreas Schleicher, OECD Education Director who oversaw the study, who will be delivering welcoming remarks at the Summit states, "School systems need to find more effective ways to integrate technology into teaching and learning to provide educators with learning environments that support 21st century pedagogies and provide children with the 21st century skills they need to succeed in tomorrow's world."
As we continue to make positive strides in learning & innovation it is important that we address and correct the unique challenges in Canadian K12 and post-secondary education. The notion of 'mindsharing' combined with education and industry thought leaders creates powerful opportunities for collaboration, innovation and the forging of unique partnerships. Participants will gain vital insights on EdTech trends through the expert "Cross Canada Checkup" panel.
"As classrooms become increasingly better equipped with technology, we must pause and ask what kinds of uses are being made by students and how are teachers being prepared to use the technology effectively? The Summit is an ideal opportunity for leaders to discuss critical issues such as these," states Dr. Ron Owston, Dean, Faculty of Education, York University.
The 6th Anniversary marks a special challenge for every Education and Industry Leader to embrace change and inspire others to innovate. This year's Summit promises to be more engaging and interactive to facilitate networking and creative problem solving in K12 and post-secondary learning environments.
