OTTAWA, June 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) congratulates Ontario Premier Wynne on her re-election and stands ready to work to ensure that the wind energy industry plays an important part in ensuring Ontario is a North American leader in the generation of clean, affordable electricity, good-paying jobs and new economic opportunities for rural communities.
"A vital economic driver for Ontario is a responsive, cost-competitive electricity system that ultimately respects the environment," says CanWEA President Robert Hornung. "Wind energy will stabilize and reduce electricity prices over time relative to alternative forms of generation and a steady stream of new wind energy helps provide Ontario with much-needed flexibility to align electricity supply needs with changing economic and environmental circumstances," he added.
Wind energy is a proven, reliable and cost-competitive energy solution that drives economic diversification, environmental sustainability and rate-base value. New records for annual wind energy installations are expected to be set both globally and in Canada in 2014.
"We look forward to working with Premier Wynne and her government and all political parties to facilitate Ontario's pursuit of a clean, reliable electricity system that will stabilize future electricity prices, promote economic development and protect our environment," says Mr. Hornung.
