Results also reveal the most popular gift on Dad's list
TORONTO, June 3, 2019 /CNW/ - Considering everything dads do for us throughout our lives, they certainly deserve a little extra-special appreciation on Father's Day. And Canadians are showing the love by stepping up their spend on gifts for dad, dropping an average of $63 for Father's Day this year, up from $57 in 2018.
Whether he's a die-hard Raptors fan, a foodie or a tech geek, there are plenty of gift ideas to choose from. But for those who have a hard time deciding what to give, the poll also revealed what gift dads prefer to receive. Almost half (42%) of dads say they'd like a gift card/certificate and 35 per cent would choose a meal out, while 14 per cent said they'd like tickets to an event or experience. This aligns almost exactly with what Canadians plan on giving their dad this year, with 43 per cent saying gift cards/certificates are the most popular gift option, followed by 37 per cent who say they'll take dad out for a meal and thirteen per cent will give him tickets to an event or experience. While this might point to good communication, the actual reason for the popularity of gift cards/ certificates when it comes to both giving and receiving gifts, is the ability for the recipient to choose the perfect item.
"Dads can be notoriously hard to buy for and Canadians want to make sure that they give the gift that will be most appreciated," said Belinda Baugniet, VP of marketing and resident shopping expert at Ebates.ca. "Gift cards can make the perfect present for Father's Day as it allows dads the ability to choose whatever they most want or need."
While cost is increasingly the most important factor when shopping for dads (47% vs 42% last year), practicality (34%) and uniqueness (22%) are other important factors.
