Dedicated iPhone micro-site receives 90 per cent hike in traffic; close to 300,000 ads posted for previous model iPhones
TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - iPhones for everyone! Kijiji, Canada's most popular free, local, online classifieds website, is amazed with the 90 per cent increase in traffic to its new dedicated iPhone 5 landing page, launched over a week ago to coincide with the announcement of Apple's new iPhone 5.
Live iPhone ads posted to Kijiji.ca jumped from 19,500 to 290,000 in just one week. Torontonians have more than doubled (112 per cent) the number of searches for iPhones on the site, but not to be outdone by Quebeckers (114 per cent); and Winnipeggers (110 per cent) round out the top three.
"The activity on the Kijiji iPhone site is a testament to the excitement that has been building in Canada for the new Apple product release," said Ted Kritsonis, technology guru. "People may be camping out overnight tonight to get a new device, but many others will stay home and get a great deal on a previous model with the help of Kijiji."
Fans of the iPhone can tune in to Kijiji's dedicated iPhone landing page and Instagram for live line up photos and video content of all the iPhone 5 action from Apple stores in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver tomorrow. In Montreal, the Kijiji Krew will be on Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest outside the Apple store giving away swag and helping new iPhone 5 owners post ads for their previous models of iPhones on the new page.
"We are gearing up to be in the trenches outside Apple stores across Canada tomorrow to participate in the iPhone frenzy," said Bart Molenda, head of marketing, Kijiji Canada. "Check out www.kijiji.ca/iPhone5 for live photos and video; we encourage Kijiji users across Canada to post their own on Twitter and Instagram with hashtags: #kijijitoronto, #kijijimontreal, #kijijivancouver."
Starting tomorrow, Kijiji will donate $1 to Evergreen for every smartphone sold within the first 60 days of the launch. Kijiji will publish the total number of iPhones available on the site each week to encourage cell phone recycling.
