Canadians raise more than $80,000 for West Africa
50th anniversary fundraiser helps children and families in Burkina Faso
MARKHAM, ON, Sept. 7 /CNW/ - Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC), a Markham-based charity, will be hosting a gala event on September 11, 2010 to commemorate 50 years of helping children and to raise money for five life-changing projects in Burkina Faso.
These projects include: building early childhood development centres; constructing latrines; providing vocational training, food, and HIV/AIDS prevention education to vulnerable populations; creating a vegetable garden to feed children at a primary school; and educating against early and forced marriages of young girls.
More than $80,000 of the $150,000 goal has already been raised and 300 people are expected to attend the event including program staff from CCFC's overseas operations.
The gala will start at 6 p.m. at Le Parc Banquet and Conference Centre at 8432 Leslie Street, Thornhill. Tickets cost $150 and all funds raised will benefit children and families in need.
