BOUCHERVILLE, QC, Feb. 26, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Structal-Heavy Steel Construction (Structal), a business unit of Canam Group Inc. (TSX:CAM), will take part in four projects totaling over $191M that are located in Canada and the United States.
Rogers Place/New Edmonton Arena
Structal has received from PCL Construction Management Inc. a notice to proceed to order the steel for the structure of Rogers Place, a new arena complex that will also feature an entertainment district. The 18,640-seat arena, which will be the new home of the Edmonton Oilers, is slated to open in autumn 2016. Structal expects to finalize a formal subcontract shortly.
The steel components will be fabricated at Canam Group's facilities in Calgary, AB, and St. Gédéon de Beauce, QC, with deliveries beginning in August 2014 and continuing into the third quarter of 2015.
Arthur Ashe Stadium/ Retractable roof
Structal received a notice to proceed from Hunt Construction Group to order steel and begin preconstruction and detailing services for the construction of a retractable roof for the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Corporation was involved in the construction of the original steel frame of this venue, which opened in the New York City borough of Queens in 1997. Structal expects to finalize a formal subcontract shortly.
The steel components will be fabricated at the St. Gédéon de Beauce, QC, and Point of Rocks, MD, plants, while deliveries are slated to take place from September 2014 to May 2015.
Kimmel Pavilion/ NYU Langone Medical Center
Turner Construction awarded Structal the contract to execute the steel structure of the Kimmel Pavilion, a 23-story building that will form part of the New York University Langone Medical Center. The 850,000 sq. ft. (78,968 m2) facility is slated to open in 2017.
The St. Gédéon de Beauce, QC, Point of Rocks, MD, and South Plainfield, NJ, plants have been designated to fabricate the steel components required for the construction of this new structure. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2015 and will be completed in November of the same year.
Tower C/ Hudson Yards
Tutor Perini Corporation awarded Structal the contract to execute the steel structure of the Hudson Yards Tower C, a 47-story high-rise that's being built in New York City. Construction of the 1.7 million sq. ft. (157,936 m2) office tower, which is seeking LEEDâ Gold certification, will be completed in 2015.
Fabrication of the steel components required for this project, which must adhere to a very tight construction schedule, is currently underway at the St. Gédéon de Beauce, QC, Point of Rocks, MD, and South Plainfield, NJ, plants. Deliveries will take place from March 2014 to the beginning of 2015.
As a whole, Structal's mandate in the scope of these projects includes design-build, detailing, building information modeling (BIM) and project management services in addition to the fabrication and erection of steel components.
