MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Kevin Wallace, President and General Manager of Candu Energy Inc., made the following statement in response to the announced closure of Quebec's Gentilly-2 nuclear facility at the end of 2012:
"Candu Energy Inc. believes the government's decision to close the Gentilly-2 nuclear facility was made before all options were considered. A balanced energy mix provides stability and price certainty to Quebec's economy. This issue would benefit from the exploration of other options to save this facility and the jobs associated with it. One possibility would be engaging in a lease agreement with a partner to refurbish, operate and potentially decommission the plant. We hope that the government will reconsider its decision and engage in further dialogue on this issue, considering the lease model has been used successfully in France, Ontario and the U.S. We would be happy to provide additional information."
