- Canlan Sportsplex to be Company's first "non-ice" facility focusing on field and court sports -
BURNABY, BC, June 25, 2012 /CNW/ - Canlan Ice Sports Corp., industry-leading providers of recreational sports and entertainment facilities across North America, today announced it is expanding its Canadian operations with the addition of "Canlan Sportsplex - Mississauga", a new, 55,000 square foot indoor sports complex to be located in Mississauga, Ontario.
"Due to the growth of soccer and other field related sports, particularly in southwestern Ontario, the Mississauga market represents a promising opportunity where we can combine our proven expertise in offering highly successful adult and youth recreational leagues, tournaments and programming with the operation of a first class multi-sport facility," said Joey St-Aubin, President and CEO of Canlan Ice Sports Corp. "The location and demographics of this future facility are ideal as it is situated in one of Canada's fastest growing and densely populated cities. It is also conveniently accessible by car, public transportation and is located near the Go Train line, providing high accessibility and exposure to daily commuters."
Located at 3360 Wolfdale Road in Mississauga, Ontario, Canlan intends to refurbish an existing vacant warehouse, previously used as an assembly plant, by investing approximately $1.7 million dollars of leasehold improvements to transform the building into a multi-sport, recreational facility. This includes the installation of two fully boarded indoor artificial turf fields, one sport floor rink, three professional volleyball courts, along with a fully-licensed food and beverage area, change rooms and party rooms. The facility will have nine large overhead doors which will easily transform the indoor sports center into an open air sports complex to give participants the feeling of being outdoors while remaining sheltered from the sun or rain in the spring and summer periods.
As operator of Canlan Sportsplex - Mississauga, Canlan plans to offer multiple recreational leagues, tournaments and programming including soccer, volleyball, ball hockey, floor ball, lacrosse, roller hockey, flag football, birthday parties, Corporate team building events, as well as camps and instructional programs. Canlan expects to begin offering its branded programs as early as the fall of this year.
