BURNABY, BC, May 10 /CNW/ - Canlan Ice Sports Corp. (TSX: ICE), industry-leading providers of on-ice experiences to youth and adults across North America, today announced they will be the exclusive provider of adult recreational hockey leagues at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the crown jewel venue of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
"We are extremely proud that the Richmond Olympic Oval has become the next site for our expanding Adult Safe Hockey Network (ASHN)," said Joey St-Aubin, President and CEO of Canlan Ice Sports. "The facility is among the finest in North America. By hosting ASHL games starting in the fall of 2010, the Oval will be increasingly accessible for use by the local community and drive further growth of the Adult Safe Hockey League, North America's premier adult recreational league."
The ASHL will commence operations at the Richmond Olympic Oval this September, offering both Men's and Women's Divisions. Complete registration information is available at www.adultsafehockey.net. Teams participating in the league at the Oval will join the ASHL Pacific Region, currently made up of 488 winter teams playing at Canlan facilities in North Vancouver, Burnaby and Langley as well as automatically receiving entry into the accompanying ASHN.
"The visibility and excitement of the recent Olympic hockey games - and Canada's dramatic gold medal win - have significantly raised the interest of first-time players seeking to learn and enjoy our great game," said Gerry De Cicco, Senior Manager of the Richmond Olympic Oval. "With the Oval offering an adult recreational hockey opportunity for the community in conjunction with Canlan and the ASHL, it will allow us to address the growing demand of amateur hockey in this world-class sport facility."
