OTTAWA, Sept. 27, 2018 /CNW/ - The Cannabis Council of Canada ("C3 or Cannabis Canada") is pleased that the Ontario government today tabled enabling legislation that will allow for the creation of a responsible regulated cannabis retail system for adult consumers.
"We look forward to working with the Government of Ontario and the wider cannabis community to build out a retail system that meets the needs of Ontario cannabis consumers and all stakeholders. Bill 36 represents a marked improvement to the system proposed by the previous government and is a significant step forward in building a truly competitive legal cannabis retail system", said Allan Rewak C3 Executive Director.
The proposed legislation would allow for point of sale for adult use cannabis at licensed cultivation facilities, which have a proven track record of zero diversion and compliance with all relevant regulations.
The Cannabis Council of Canada is committed to working with the Ontario government as the bill goes through committee and the regulatory developmental process to build a world leading retail program.
"With 63 ACMPR approved cultivation facilities in the province, and more than one-third of the Canadian population, Ontario is likely to be Canada's largest cannabis market. Our Association is excited to play our part in helping the government achieve its vision of a safe, secure and responsible cannabis retail system," said John Fowler, C3 Vice Chair (Adult Use).
