Partnership for ongoing development of Commercial Cannabis Production Program
VAUGHAN, ON, June 12, 2018 /CNW/ - CannTrust Holdings Inc. ("CannTrust" or the "Company", TSX: TRST), one of Canada's leading licensed producers of medical cannabis, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Niagara College to collaborate in the development of the College's Commercial Cannabis Production (CCP) Graduate Certificate program. The program will strengthen CannTrust's workforce production capabilities and help fill the growing demand for knowledgeable employees in the booming cannabis industry.
With the launch of this new program, Niagara College will become the first Canadian post-secondary institution to offer credits in Commercial Cannabis Production. CannTrust will be awarding six students with scholarships as part of the program's inauguration. The College and CannTrust are excited to be participating in shaping the future of Canada's cannabis industry and look forward to welcoming the program's first student intake in September 2018.
Students will be trained in cultivation and cannabis production methods at the College's customized, secure production teaching facility located on its Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus. Students will also receive in-depth training on how to navigate the complex Health Canada regulations that guide the industry.
As part of the Program, CannTrust will offer students hands-on learning through internship and cooperative opportunities and will offer a number of permanent placements to qualified candidates. These new positions will assist CannTrust in remaining at the forefront of the Canadian cannabis industry.
"CannTrust is proud to participate with Niagara College in the development of Canada's very first Commercial Cannabis Production Program. With Niagara College being located so close to our Niagara facility, CannTrust looks forward to offering both students and graduates exciting internship and employment opportunities. Graduates from the Program will help both CannTrust and others, nationally and internationally in shaping the next phase of our rapidly changing industry," said Brad Rogers, President of CannTrust.
"Strong industry connections are the backbone of our hands-on applied programs. We are grateful to partners like CannTrust who support our students and graduates and help to ensure that our curriculum meets the current and future needs of this emerging industry. We're especially pleased that CannTrust has committed to scholarships that will support students who might otherwise be unable to pursue and achieve their educational goals," said Vivian Kinnaird, dean of Business, Hospitality and Environment.
