MONTREAL, April 13, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The funeral for Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte will be celebrated by Most Reverend Christian Lépine, Archbishop of Montreal, on
Friday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral. Approximately 1,400 people are expected to attend.
The cardinal's body will lie in state at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral on Thursday, April 16, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Message to all the Members of the Media
The Public's Participation in the Funeral
In the near future, the archdiocese will publish the list of dignitaries who will be attending the funeral as well as the number of personal guests. Later this week (probably on Thursday), the archdiocese will indicate how many seats have been reserved for the public as well as the procedure for entering the cathedral to attend the funeral.
Television Pool
The Archbishop of Montreal has accepted the offer of CBC's news source for French Canada, RDI, to set up the equipment for televising:
- The lying in state on Thursday, April 16 – The members of the media will have access to the cathedral from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (RDI's cameras will be recording images throughout the day).
- The funeral on Friday, April 17 (between 1:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.)
CBC/RDI will set up its studio in the cathedral's basement and, for two days, will collect the news for a pool feed that will be accessible to all other networks that wish to broadcast the images during those two days. Richard Desjardins will be the director.

In consideration of the faithful who will be paying their last respects to Cardinal Turcotte, permission to record images inside the cathedral will be given exclusively to the cameramen working for the pool.
There will be no restrictions outside the cathedral or in the area reserved for interviews during the lying in state on Thursday, April 16.
Photographers
During the lying in state, respect for the faithful will be our greatest priority.
News photographers will be allowed inside the cathedral, but they will have to register first and follow all the instructions given to them.
Out of respect for the faithful, photographers will not be allowed to take pictures inside the cathedral during the funeral. The pictures taken by the archdiocese's photographer will be made available to the media. The Area Reserved for Interviews during the Lying in State
During the lying in state, on Thursday April 16, a specific area in the cathedral will be made available to journalists for interviews with the various prominent people who will be paying their respects to Cardinal Turcotte.
Accreditation for the Funeral
During the funeral, the cathedral will probably be full. Areas will be reserved for members of the media. Please use the entrances on René-Lévesque Boulevard.
For access to Mary Queen of the World Cathedral on the day of the funeral, you must formally make your request to attend the ceremony before 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
We will then be able to put your name on the accreditation list, and the people assigned to welcome the media will be able to quickly guide you to one of the reserved areas.
