Carpenters' Union Representatives Walk to Parliament Hill to Raise Money for Renos for Heroes
OTTAWA, Oct. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, for the sixth year in a row, Carpenters' Union Local 1030 Business Representative Durval Terceira walked from Kingston, Ontario to Parliament Hill to raise money for Renos for Heroes.
Mr. Terceira's walk was in support of Renos for Heroes, a Not-for-Profit founded in 2010 by contractor and HGTV host Jim Caruk. Renos for Heroes, in association with volunteer contractors and manufacturers in the Canadian home improvement industry and with the support of the Canadian Armed Forces, enhances the lives of our wounded veterans and their families, by providing accessibility home renovations.
"More than 100 Canadian military personnel have lost limbs since the mission to Afghanistan began in 2002 and hundreds more have been seriously wounded," said Jim Caruk, "Many of them return home and face significant difficulty, especially with their decreased mobility."
"Canada's veterans have done so much for our country. Renos for Heroes is about showing our appreciation for their service by ensuring that when they come home, moving around the house doesn't have to be another battle", Durval Terceira said. "The Carpenters' Union is the main sponsor for the walk and we encourage other members to contribute in any way possible, including joining their Local 1030 Business Representative along the way."
Since 2013, Durval's annual walk has raised over $400,000 with 100% of the funds going directly towards Renos for Heroes, allowing them to provide home renovations that help make the lives of our wounded veterans a little easier each day.
