Casino Nanaimo donates $5,000 for the Nanaimo Train Station Restoration
Project
NANAIMO, BC, June 28 /CNW/ - Great Canadian Casino Nanaimo is pleased to donate $5,000 to the Nanaimo Train Station Restoration Project.
"When the Young Professionals of Nanaimo approached us and asked for support in order to bring to life this amazing community establishment, our team in Nanaimo stepped up and made it happen," said Howard Blank, Vice President, Communications, Entertainment and Responsible Gambling, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation. "We are proud to be able to assist with this important grass-roots community project that will be a benefit to Nanaimo residents and tourists alike," added Blank.
The Nanaimo Train Station was originally built in 1880 and rebuilt in 1920. It served as an important hub for freight, tourism and commuting. The station remained in continuous use until it was destroyed by fire in 2007. The planned reconstruction of the station strives to rejuvenate the traditional roles of the station and ensure Nanaimo's leadership in the future of green mass transit on Vancouver Island.
"The Great Canadian Casino once again showed their commitment to the communities they serve in by their large donation to the Nanaimo Train Station Rehabilitation. Their donation has helped achieve our goal of having a restored train station for the future generations to use," said Andre Sullivan, President of the Young Professionals of Nanaimo.
