CATCH THE WIND SIGNS EXCLUSIVE LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH AXYS TECHNOLOGIES
WITH MINIMUM PURCHASE COMMITMENT OF 47 VINDICATOR(R) LWS UNITS
MANASSAS, VA, Sept. 1 /CNW/ - Catch the Wind Ltd. (TSX-V: CTW) announced today that it has granted AXYS Technologies an exclusive license to combine and integrate the Vindicator(R) Laser Wind Sensor with custom AXYS marine floating platforms, and sell the bundled products worldwide. The exclusive license expands on a previously announced agreement signed by both companies.
Under the terms of the five-year licensing agreement, AXYS has agreed to purchase a minimum of 47 high-precision resource Vindicator(R) LWS units from Catch the Wind over the next four years to an agreed upon schedule. The units will then be bundled and sold with AXYS's sea/saltwater marine floating platforms. The Vindicator(R) LWS is fully-motion compensated and designed to function in the harsh maritime environment, making it a unique product in the industry. The WindSentinel(TM) with the Vindicator(R) LWS marks a revolution in offshore wind resource assessment.
"Demand for our wind measurement technology continues to grow among the various elements that make up the renewable energy market," said Philip L. Rogers, President and CEO, Catch the Wind. "Through our expanded relationship with AXYS, we will be able to accelerate the commercialization of our technology, particularly within the wind resource assessment segment. This distribution agreement establishes an additional market channel in our continually growing sales pipeline, and further validates industry need for the Vindicator technology."
The minimum purchase commitment for 47 Vindicator(R) LWS units represents the largest that Catch the Wind has received to date.
As announced previously, Catch the Wind and AXYS Technologies had entered into a one-year, non-exclusive sales and distribution relationship in 2009 to determine the viability of integrating the Vindicator(R) LWS with and into custom AXYS salt/fresh water fixed and floating platforms.
The Vindicator(R) LWS uses laser technology combined with Doppler radar techniques to analyze air particle movement and determine wind speed and direction. The Vindicator(R) LWS is designed to improve wind prospecting, wind resource assessment and the performance of wind turbines, resulting in more energy production and reduced maintenance costs.
