Cathedral Arts Concert to support Research on Prostate and Colorectal Cancer
OTTAWA, May 12 /CNW Telbec/ - On Saturday, June 12th, Cathedral Arts will host a collaborative fundraiser with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation in support of research on Prostate and Colorectal Cancer. The concert will feature many of the Greatest Show Tunes and Top Hits of the Twentieth Century which many of us still love to hear and sing. Organized by Matthew Larkin, Director of Music and Organist at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa, members of the Cathedral Choirs, the Capital Jazz Youth Orchestra and other special guests, including Jazz Singers Roxanne Goodman and Steve Berndt, will present a memorable evening of ballads, jazz and top hits from the stage and radio. This not-to-be missed event will take place at Christ Church Cathedral, 420 Sparks Street.
CTV Ottawa, The Ottawa Citizen, The Hill Times and Embassy Magazine are media partners for this event. According to John Dennison, Chairman of Cathedral Arts, "many citizens and sponsors are interested in this initiative because they know that Prostate and Colorectal Cancer are two of the leading causes of death among Canadians."
Cathedral Arts is a small, not-for-profit, outreach organization designed to promote and celebrate the visual and performing arts within Ottawa's historic Christ Church Cathedral. Its programming includes concerts, educational lectures, dramatic productions and exhibits. Financial support comes wholly from patrons, regular supporters, local advertisers and the proceeds of events.
Profits are reinvested in the work of Cathedral Arts, or, as in this case, shared with local charities through specific collaborative arrangements. In the past, these have included the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Care Centre; the Kiwanis Precious Minds Read-a-thon; the Rotary Centennial Playground for Children of all Abilities; the Sickle Cell Disease Parents' Support Group; and, the S.T.E.P. Project, an Ottawa Youth Drug Addiction Program.
Ticket prices for June 12th range from $15.00 for students to $100 for "Platinum" level. The $100 ticket includes a tax receipt of $50, and a Post-Concert Reception to meet the performers and sponsors.
As an encouragement to purchase tickets early, Cathedral Arts is running an Early Bird Draw, closing date May 23rd, for a Trip for Two to Barbados, including five nights' accommodation at the Barbados Hilton.
