CAW Donates to Local Edmonton Food Bank
EDMONTON, Dec. 15 /CNW/ - The CAW will be making a donation of $3,500 to Edmonton's Food Bank, as part of a donation by the union to 45 local food banks across the country, totaling $135,000.
Each month, Edmonton's Food Bank feeds 15,000 people, 40% of who are under the age of 18. The Food Bank also supplies food for 190 agencies in the city such as the Salvation Army and the Mustard Seed, as well as the school snack program.
"Edmonton's Food Bank is essential to the survival of many Edmontonians and has long roots in our community," said CAW Local 350 President Bruce Fafard. "There is no doubt that food banks offer temporary reprieve in a time of great urgency. But in order to tackle the root problems that make food bank use necessary, we must work to develop an anti-poverty strategy for the city, for the province and for the country."
Fafard will make the cheque presentation to the Food Bank tomorrow, Thursday December 16 at 11 a.m.
