OTTAWA, Sept. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - CBC/Radio-Canada announced today the appointment of Heather Conway as Executive Vice-President of English Services. She'll be joining the public broadcaster in early December.
Ms. Conway is currently Chief Business Officer at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Previously she has been President of Edelman Public Relations, Executive Vice-President at Alliance Atlantis, Executive Vice President of TD Financial Group, Vice President of Hill and Knowlton and of The Neville Group and Special Assistant to the Minister of Finance.
"At a time when we have great momentum, Heather with her exceptionally broad experience and proven expertise and success in the business, government and cultural sectors will be a great addition" says Hubert T. Lacroix, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada "Her business-focus to decision making and strategic thinking will be particularly useful as we carve out the path for CBC and ensure its continued progress."
"I believe the CBC is a valued and essential institution. Canadians have such high expectations as to the role the public broadcaster plays in their daily lives and in the telling of their stories. The idea of being part of that is thrilling, particularly at this stage of CBC's evolution, and I can't wait to get started," says Ms. Conway.
CBC is experiencing success across its many platforms. Last year we had five of the top 10 Canadian entertainment programs on television. Our regional presence continues to grow, with 20 of our 23 Radio One local morning programs placing in the top 3 ranking. We're growing our digital offering with new exclusive online content and apps launching on a regular basis. And there's plenty to look forward to with a great new line-up debuting this fall and of course the Sochi Winter Olympics taking centre stage in the new year.
"Heather will lead what is, I think, as gifted and focused team, from senior management to the floor of the local newsrooms, as I have seen at CBC," says Mr. Lacroix. "We operate in a world where the pace is relentless. Heather's understanding of the environment will allow her, from minute one, to take on the challenges that it brings. I am happy to have Heather on board to share those challenges."
