CBSA removes American fugitive from Canada

MONTREAL, Sept. 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that Sidney Powell, a U.S. citizen wanted in the United States for serious criminal charges, was removed from Canada today. Powell was removed for being inadmissible for serious criminality under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Powell, who has many aliases, is wanted in Vermont and Washington and has criminal files in seven U.S. states. He is also wanted in Vermont for selling narcotics. 

Powell was recently profiled on Crime Stoppers. A Montréal resident recognized him and contacted American authorities who notified Canadian authorities on September 10. A few hours later, Powell was arrested by enforcement officers from the CBSA Investigations Section in downtown Montréal, assisted by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal.

The CBSA is committed to ensuring that Canada will not be a safe haven for fugitives from justice. This arrest and removal demonstrates the diligence of CBSA officers who work together with their law enforcement partners both in Canada and in the United States to protect Canada's border and communitie.
