Innovative Helmet Provides Linear And Rotational Acceleration Management To Help Reduce Brain Tissue Strain*
MONTREAL, Aug. 21, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, CCM Hockey officially launched its most innovative hockey helmet to date, the CCM Resistance, available now at hockey retailers worldwide.
The Resistance is the result of four years of development and testing with the Neurotrauma Impact Science experts at the University of Ottawa, in Canada. Through this partnership, the Resistance helmet was impact-tested on head models to analyze the stress and strain hockey-related impacts might cause to the brain.
CCM's proprietary Rotational Energy Dampening System (R.E.D. System) and impact pods introduced in the Resistance helmet were created to manage linear and rotational accelerations, caused by impacts to the head. The R.E.D. System is a series of liquid-filled bladders that allow for improved rotational deceleration of the head, while the impact pods lining the helmet's shell feature an engineered structure combining EPP foam and a plastic shock absorber to help manage linear forces caused by straight hits. Combining the R.E.D. System's rotational force management with impact pods that focus on the linear aspect of impacts, the CCM Resistance helmet has a liner that was truly engineered through cutting-edge science.
"Our new CCM Resistance helmet is a testament to the CCM brand's clear focus on technology and innovative products to help make players safer on the ice", said Sean Williams, Vice-President Global Marketing and North American Sales, Reebok-CCM Hockey.
The CCM Resistance helmet also has a simple tool-free, single-step adjustment mechanism at the back of the helmet, which allows for a quick, customized fit and high level of comfort. The innovative shell design not only makes it easier to adjust the helmet but also offers a pro-preferred look.
Several NHL stars will be wearing the new CCM Resistance helmet for the 2014-2015 season, including John Tavares, Nathan MacKinnon, Patrice Bergeron, Dustin Brown, and Alex Galchenyuk.
