Thanks to a consolidated effort from partners such as the CCM Pros and Air Canada, 500,000 surgical masks will be donated starting May 19th
MONTREAL, May 19, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - CCM Hockey, a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of hockey equipment and related apparel, is pleased to announce the arrival of the first 100,000 surgical masks it is donating to protect frontline medical workers in the battle against COVID-19.
Team Effort
The Montreal-based company has procured this protective equipment from its established network of partners that normally collaborate in the production of CCM hockey gear. With the generous assistance of Air Canada, CCM arranged for transport and has coordinated with government health authorities to immediately distribute this protective medical equipment to Canadian health care workers upon its arrival on Canadian soil.
"Nothing demonstrates teamwork better than this initiative. Through the combined efforts of our roster of CCM Pros—and their generous financial donations, our established supply chain partners in Asia, and the logistical support of Air Canada, who facilitated transport of this major shipment of protective masks, we are able to contribute to fighting the battle of our time by supporting health professionals in our communities," said Rick Blackshaw, CEO of CCM Hockey.
CCM-Brand Protective Visor
In addition, for several weeks now, CCM has been manufacturing a multiple use protective visor. It is being produced at CCM's NHL Pro Custom Equipment facility in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, using locally-sourced supplies. Output has been ramped up to some 2 500 visors per day. The reusable CCM protective visor is already being worn by healthcare workers on the front lines across Canada.
Full Head Protective Hood
Finally, CCM is pleased to announce that its Full Head Protective Hood, designed by the skilled craftspeople of CCM, in conjunction with surgeon Dr. René Caissie and Industrie Orkan, is also in production at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu plant.
Powered by an air-purifying respirator (PAPR), this device provides an integrated defence against multiple hazards by combining respiratory, head, eye and face protection, guarding against aerosolized and airborne particulates. It can be worn for multiple hours at a time and reduces inter-patient treatment protection changeover lapses.
The manufacturing blueprints for the Full Head Protective Hood, including designs, material specs and assembly instruction, have been shared on an open source basis at https://ccmhockey.com/en/covid-19-hood, so as to permit other manufacturers to increase our collective production capacity.

"I have never been so proud of our CCM team. In only a few short weeks, we've launched not one, not two, but three separate initiatives to protect Canada's true heroes, the healthcare professionals who are on the front lines of this crisis," said Mr. Blackshaw. "For a hockey equipment manufacturer to successfully pivot to bring medical masks, visors and full head protective hoods to market in only a few short weeks required every ounce of the resourcefulness and innovative outside-the-box thinking for which the CCM team has always been known throughout the hockey world."
