TORONTO, June 9, 2020 /CNW/ - Wayne Ralph, Chief Operating Officer, Canadian Depository for Securities Limited (CDS) and Jay Rajarathinam, President, CDS & Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (CDCC) joined John McKenzie, Interim Chief Executive Officer, TMX Group, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CDS and open the market.
CDS was formed in 1970 in response to increased capital markets activity and escalating back office costs. The vision was to create an automated, centralized depository service and electronic clearing and settlement system that could handle higher volumes, and evolve to meet client needs into the future.
Today, CDS remains Canada's central securities depository, settlement and clearing hub for domestic and cross-border depository-eligible securities, with regional offices in Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. CDS supports Canada's equity, fixed income and money markets, and is accountable for the safe custody and movement of securities, the processing of post-trade transactions, and the collection and distribution of entitlements.
