MONTREAL, Feb. 24, 2015 /CNW/ - Mature Workers play an integral role in the workforce, one that will only grow as Québec's population ages. Statistics Canada projects that by 2036, over half of the population of Quebec will be at least 45 years of age.
That is why CEDEC is reaching out to employers, recruiters, hiring managers and businesses through its social media channels and its network of volunteers, stakeholders and partners. The goal is to increase their understanding of the benefits of hiring and retaining mature workers.
Continuing to integrate mature workers into Quebec's labour market is a key to economic development. These individuals represent a hidden pool of potential workers that can and do play a role in filling employers' needs for qualified, skilled employees to support their growing businesses.
Employers, such as Sodexo Canada are always seeking to build a strong and productive team. Diversifying the workplace with employees who are 45+ is the right way to go! According to Katherine Power, VP Communications, "mature workers bring a lot of benefits to Sodexo…they bring a wealth of experience that is really invaluable to the company." Power also noted that "the more diverse our work force the better outcome we have as a company, it's directly tied to the bottom line. So it's not just the right thing to do, it's the smart business thing to do."

In collaboration with partners and stakeholders, CEDEC has been working since 2009 to gain a clear portrait of the needs of mature workers, reaching out to individuals, employers and employment service providers through its Mature Workers' Initiative Committee. The results were published in a 2010 report, entitled Responding to an Ageing Workforce and in 2012 in Employment Practices and Employability of the Hidden Talent Pool.
CEDEC is a leading partner and driving force for community economic development and employability. A volunteer-driven organization, CEDEC sparks economic innovation in building forward-looking, prosperous and confident communities across Quebec through sharing expertise, knowledge and building partnerships.
