Celebrating newly elected President of Venezuela in Toronto
TORONTO, April 19, 2013 /CNW/ - We are happy to invite you to join us to celebrate Nicolas Maduro's Victory as newly elected President of Venezuela. This Saturday April 20, starting at 2pm at Dundas Square, Toronto. Music and fun for the whole family!
On Sunday April 14th, 2013 the people of Venezuela went to the polls to choose a new President, a month after the passing of their popular leader Hugo Chavez Frias, with an admirable participation rate of 78% of the population.
Venezuela has a very long standing history of democratically run elections. The Carter Institute, headed by former U.S. president Jimmy Carter has stated that the elections in Venezuela, are one of the most trusted in the world, which was also confirmed by the European Community and The Union of South American Nations among others.
Mr. Henrique Capriles, loser candidate who has a close relationship with foreign transnational corporations and the government of the United States, incited his followers, not only to not accept the results of the elections, but to demonstrate against the winning candidate, not respecting the will of the majority of the Venezuelan voters.
These demonstrations turned violent with the sad outcome of 40 injured and 8 people killed. Several Popular medical centers were burned down and a supermarket and private property were vandalized.
President Nicolas Maduro pleaded for peace and has denounced that the real intention of the opposition leader is to create a crisis leading to a Coup. We are for peace and democracy and we support the will of the Venezuela People who chose Niolas Maduro.
We would also condemn any intervention that will tamper the right of Venezuelan's to choose their own destiny. We think that it is an important step, for the Canadian Government to officially recognize the government of the duly elected President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Mr. Nicolas Maduro and respect the democratic will of the majority of Venezuelan voters.
