Centennial College brings four professional college programs to Pickering this fall
TORONTO, May 15, 2012 /CNW/ - In response to a growing demand for commuter-friendly post-secondary education in the Durham Region east of Toronto, Centennial College is opening a new satellite teaching location jointly with Durham College in the community of Pickering.
With convenient access to the Pickering Town Centre and the GO Train station, the Pickering Learning Site will offer four Centennial College graduate certificate programs: Corporate Communications and Public Relations, Strategic Management - Accounting, Project Management, and Financial Planning.
One year in duration, graduate certificate programs are tailored for college and university graduates who wish to gain a specialization to augment their diploma or degree. Increasingly, university graduates are enrolling in college to attain skills in a specific profession, such as public relations or financial planning.
Centennial's Corporate Communications and Public Relations program provides a strong focus on writing, strategic communication, social media and event management. It offers small class sizes and a mix of in-class and online learning, particularly suitable for adult learners. The program includes an eight-week field placement that gives students rich work experience.
Students in the Strategic Management - Accounting program will deepen their understanding of financial accounting, management accounting, taxation and auditing. The Project Management program follows the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) methodology, which provides specialists of any discipline with the skills needed to manage work projects in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Centennial's Financial Planning program provides students with a strong understanding of financial planning practices, with enough knowledge to challenge the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam upon completion.
Classes are scheduled to begin in September. The Pickering Learning Site is located on the Pickering Parkway near Liverpool Road, and is directly linked to the Pickering GO Train station by way of the new pedestrian bridge across Highway 401.
