Centennial College joins Street View after welcoming Google 'trike' on campus

TORONTO, Sept. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Just in time for the new school year, Centennial College is joining other colleges and universities throughout the world by having its flagship Progress Campus on Google Street View.

Centennial was among the first colleges and universities in Canada to be part of the improved online service, which involves using a three-wheeled trike to photograph parts of the campus that were not accessible by the Google Street View car.

Previously, images for Street View on Google Maps had been gathered by cars driving on public roads. The same panoramic cameras were put on trikes to navigate through tighter spaces and walkways to get the full campus experience. The imagery is limited to outdoor views.

Centennial's Progress Campus images are available as of today on Google Street View to help students and their family members and friends orient themselves to their new school, and to assist prospective students checking out distant campuses online. More than 4,000 Centennial College registrants are international visa students, who will find the enhanced Street View helpful and informative.

The latest release of Street View imagery on Google Maps includes university campuses across Canada, the U.S., Brazil, Spain, U.K., France, Netherlands, Israel, Japan and Taiwan. The photo service is provided at no cost to the institutions and is accessible and free to all Internet users.
