Centennial College opens cooling centres to the public
TORONTO, July 5 /CNW/ - Centennial College is opening its campus libraries and cafeterias to members of the public who are looking for relief from the scorching temperatures this summer.
Research suggests that high temperatures for several days in a row can lead to fatalities in vulnerable populations. Those particularly at risk include infants and preschool children, the elderly, people with chronic illness and the homeless.
All four of the college's air-conditioned campuses will be open from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, until the end of August.
Locations include 951 Carlaw Avenue (at Mortimer Ave.) in East York and three Scarborough campuses: 75 Ashtonbee Rd. (just north of Warden and Eglinton), 941 Progress Ave. (east of Markham Rd.), and 755 Morningside Ave. (at Ellesmere Rd.).
