Centennial College to host public mayoral debate on Monday, October 6

TORONTO, Sept. 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Toronto's leading mayoral candidates will be on hand at Centennial College on Monday, October 6 to answer questions posed by Scarborough residents, as well as journalists Royson James, Hamutal Dotan and Samira Mohyeddin.

Centennial's main campus of 10,000 students was to be a key stop on the proposed Scarborough LRT line. Hosting the debate at Centennial's largest campus provides the candidates access to students, faculty and staff, and the Scarborough community at large.

The debate will consist of policy statements from mayoral candidates Olivia Chow, Doug Ford and John Tory, questions posed by the Toronto Star, Toronto Observer and Torontoist reporters, as well as an open-mike opportunity for local constituents to ask questions of the candidates. The debate will be moderated by award-winning author, journalist and Centennial College professor Ted Barris.

"We're thrilled to organize this debate and provide a forum for the residents of Scarborough and the Centennial community to hear from the candidates about their vision for this city," says Nate Horowitz, dean of the Story Arts Centre, Centennial's School of Communications, Media and Design.

The event is free and open to the public. The debate will take place on Monday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 9 pm in the Library Building, Lecture Theatre L1-02, Progress Campus, located at 941 Progress Ave., just east of Markham Rd. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and seating is limited. Community broadcaster Rogers TV will be livestreaming the debate.
