Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) selects RuggedCom for the Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP)
CONCORD, ON, Jan. 25, 2012 /CNW/ - RuggedCom Inc. ("RuggedCom") (TSX:RCM), a leading designer and manufacturer of industrial strength networks for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, has been selected to provide Central Maine Power Company (CMP) with a communication solution for the Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP).
The initiative aims to modernize their 40-year-old bulk power system, which spans across 11,000 square-miles. The project includes the construction of five new substations, upgrades to more than 40 existing substations and installation of nearly 440 miles of transmission line in 75 communities.
RuggedCom's RuggedBackbone™ RX5000, was specified as a high-density, layer 2 Ethernet switch for primary and backup protection for the IEC 61850 compliant substations. Another member of the RuggedBackbone family, the RX1500, will be integrated into the substation network as a layer 3 router with firewall and VPN services.
CMP also specified RuggedCom's secure access management solution, CrossBow™ for NERC CIP compliant access to intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). The CrossBow™ solution focuses on delivering productivity gains for administrators and users while achieving full NERC compliance in managing, securing and reporting on remote access.
