Leading building materials manufacturer highlights the industry's best as result of rigorous two-year competition, honouring excellence in drywall design and beyond
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Dec. 4, 2017 /CNW/ -- CertainTeed, North America's leading brand of building materials, is pleased to formally announce the overall winners of the CertainTeed Gypsum Canada Trophy Awards, recognizing outstanding work using CertainTeed Gypsum products. Held in Austin, TX at the Horseshoe Bay Resort, those winners were honoured in front of their peers as the best in the business.
Awarded every two years, the CertainTeed Gypsum Canada Trophy Awards recognize excellence in design, drywall installation and finishing. The competition judges building professionals for their gypsum-related skills in the following categories: Drywall, Plaster, Innovation & Sustainability, Residential, Non-residential, (Gypsum) Ceilings.
Smith Brothers Contracting Corp. and DonMor Drywall from Ontario will proudly represent Canada at the 11th Saint-Gobain Gypsum International Trophy Awards ceremony this March in Lisbon, Portugal. Selected from seven top Regional projects that represent outstanding work using CertainTeed Gypsum products, the two contractors were honoured at the second CertainTeed Gypsum North American Trophy event in Austin. They will join United States contractors Sears Contract, Inc. and Michael's Homes as the four North American honourees attending the prestigious international ceremony.
Smith Brothers Contracting Corp., based in Ancaster, Ontario, won the right to represent Canada based on their high level of drywall craftsmanship and skill used to achieve the ambitious interior space of the St. Mary & St. Samuel Coptic Orthodox Church, a 32,000 square-foot single-story space in Markham, Ontario.
Based in Bolton, Ontario, DonMor Drywall won the right to represent Canada by applying expert drywall techniques to a project under a tight construction schedule: the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre Expansion Phase 1B, consisting of a new fitness centre, two gymnasiums, exercise class, locker rooms, meeting rooms, a climbing wall and student lounge.
"As a leader in Canadian gypsum, we are always looking for ways to honour and recognize the best in the industry – both on the residential and commercial side of the business," said Wayne Edgecombe, vice president, Sales at CertainTeed Gypsum Canada. "The building community is full of talent and we showcase our utmost respect for the top talent who balance the complexity of material performance specifications, including time and budget, while delivering an outstanding and notable design. Congrats to all finalists and of course, the winners."
The CertainTeed Gypsum National Trophy's overall winning projects will go on to compete on the global stage at the Saint-Gobain Gypsum International Trophy event in Lisbon in March 2018 where over 90 projects from 35 countries will be showcased.
"These professionals continue to break barriers and push the limits of construction, while exemplifying innovation and craftsmanship to the highest degree," added Edgecombe.
