CFHI teams up with Institute for Healthcare Improvement of U.S. - Internationally renowned programs to be tailored to Canadian healthcare systems Français
OTTAWA, June 25, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), a leading innovator in health and health care improvement worldwide. The intent of this relationship is to tailor healthcare improvement workshops and learning collaborations developed by IHI to the Canadian healthcare landscape, strengthening the ability of both organizations to address major health system challenges.
Recognizing their compatible aims, CFHI and IHI will leverage their complementary strengths to offer programs that support change management and healthcare improvement in Canada, the U.S., and beyond. In addition to customizing existing IHI offerings to Canada, the organizations will identify opportunities for new, joint educational programs.
Maureen Bisognano, IHI's President and CEO, praises the collaborative endeavour, stating: "We are looking forward to working closely with our colleagues at the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement, an organization that shares IHI's commitment to better health and health care for everyone. Together we are facing a global challenge to improve the quality and value of health care, and we believe that, in learning and working in collaboration, we will accelerate progress in each of our countries, and around the world."
The first initiative between the two organizations centers on adapting and delivering IHI's improvement workshop Driving Quality, Lowering Costs on October 24-25, 2013, in Ottawa. CFHI is now inviting Canadian clinicians and finance staff to enroll in the workshop, designed to teach participants how to build efficient systems and lasting system redesign for ongoing cost and quality work. Participants will be equipped with the skills to reduce operating expenses by one percent while improving quality in a 12-month period. They will further develop frameworks for ongoing cost reduction and quality improvement.
CFHI is also partially funding organizations' participation in the Canadian cohort of IHI's highly-praised Triple Aim Improvement Community, a 10-month program starting in September but with enrolment now taking place. IHI originated the framework which simultaneously pursues three care dimensions: better care for individuals, better health for populations and lower per capita costs.
CFHI will play a key role in tailoring Triple Aim learning strategies to the Canadian delivery and policy environment. The collaborative learning community will benefit from joint IHI/CFHI guidance and coaching to support planning and execution of Triple Aim projects focused on designated populations and on key health issues across geographic communities.
"This is an unprecedented opportunity for Canadian healthcare leaders, who will now be able to access IHI's esteemed healthcare training programs customized to the Canadian environment," says CFHI President Maureen O'Neil. "We are proud to present these unparalleled offerings to Canadian organizations, helping them acquire skills to improve patient outcomes and drive cost efficiency."
The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to healthcare improvement and transformation for Canadians and is funded through an agreement with the Government of Canada. CFHI collaborates with governments, policy-makers, and health system leaders to convert evidence and innovative practices into actionable policies, programs, tools and leadership development.
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement is a leading innovator in health and health care improvement worldwide. For more than 25 years, IHI has partnered with visionaries, leaders, and front-line practitioners around the globe to spark bold, inventive ways to improve the health of individuals and populations. Together, we build the will for change, seek out innovative models of care, and spread proven best practices.
