VANCOUVER, Jan. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) is pleased to announce its Board of Governors for 2012:
Cindy Choi, BAccS, FCGA, has been elected Chair of the Board of Governors for 2012. Ms. Choi is a Partner with Chan Choi & Company, Certified General Accountants in Victoria and serves on the provincial government's Small Business Roundtable. She joined the Board in 2007 and represents the Southern Vancouver Island region. Ms. Choi resides in Victoria. | |||||
Candace Nancke, CGA, is the Association's First Vice-Chair. Ms. Nancke is the Managing Partner with the CGA public accounting firm Loren, Nancke & Company. She joined the Board in 2009. In 2012 she will chair the Association's Finance and Strategic Planning Committees. Ms. Nancke resides in Coquitlam. Bruce Hurst, CFP, FCGA, is the Past-Chair and Treasurer of the Board of Governors for 2012. Mr. Hurst is a Director and Senior Shareholder with the public practice firm of Reid Hurst Nagy Inc. in Richmond. He will chair the Appeals Committee and Practice Review Committee in 2012. He joined the Board in 2007 and resides in Surrey. | |||||
Dr. Heather Banham, MBA, DBA, CGA, is Dean of Business Administration and Commercial Aviation at Okanagan College. She was elected to the Board in 2010 and represents the Kamloops/Okanagan region. She will chair the Association's Discipline Committee in 2012. Ms. Banham resides in Kelowna. | |||||
Stanley Chang, BSc, MBA, CISA, CGA, is the Acting Director, Credit Unions and Trusts in the Financial Institutions Commission, Ministry of Finance. He is also the sole Practitioner of Stanley Chang, CGA, and an accounting instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Newly elected to the Board in 2011, he will serve on the Appeals Committee in 2012. He resides in Surrey. | |||||
Connie Forrest, DiplT, CGA, joined the Board in 2007 and represents the Upper Vancouver Island region. In 2012 she will chair the Association's Education Appeals Committee. Ms. Forrest, an Associate with Jedroc Consulting Services Ltd., resides in Ladysmith. | |||||
Brian Friedrich, BA, MEd, FCGA, is a Principal with Friedrich & Friedrich Corporation in Surrey. He joined the Board in 2008. In 2012 he will serve as the Board Member appointee to the Audit Committee. Mr. Friedrich resides in Surrey. | |||||
Mary Galaugher, CGA, is Chief Financial Officer and Manager, Human Resources for the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver. She joined the Board in 2011 and will serve as Board appointee to the Association's Education Appeals Committee. Ms. Galaugher resides in New Westminster. | |||||
Rose Henri, BAccS, CGA, is a Cost Analyst with AMEC Americas. She joined the Board in 2009 and represents the East/West Kootenays region. In 2012 she will chair the Association's Honours & Awards Committee. Ms. Henri resides in Castlegar. | |||||
Keon Kwan, BA, DiplT, CFP, CFE, CPA (VT), CGA, is the owner of Keon Kwan & Company, a public accounting firm in Burnaby. He was elected to the Board for 2011 and will chair the Association's Audit Committee in 2012. Mr. Kwan resides in Burnaby. | |||||
Michael McAdam, CGA, is President and CEO of Teldon Media Group Inc., a large privately held printer. He joined the Board in 2008. Mr. McAdam resides in Surrey. | |||||
Brigitte Mettler, BBA, CGA, is a Manager and Facilitator for the BC Medical Association's Physician Information Technology Office. She joined the Board in 2007 and represents the Northern Central region. Ms. Mettler resides in Smithers. | |||||
David Sale, DiplT, MBA, CGA, is a faculty member at Kwantlen Polytechnic University's School of Business. He first served on the Board from 2006 to 2008 and was re-elected in 2010. In addition, he is CGA-BC's representative to CGA-Canada's National Education Committee. Mr. Sale resides in Surrey. | |||||
C.Y. Tay, BBA, CGA, is Director of Finance and Administration with PDG Investments in Vancouver. He joined the Board in 2008. In 2012 he will serve on the Association's Appeals Committee. Mr. Tay resides in Vancouver. | |||||
Ursula Viney, CGA, is the Acting Executive Director for the Consumer Taxation Audit Branch of the Ministry of Finance. She was newly elected to the Board in 2011. In 2012 she will be the Board representative to the CGA-BC Educational Foundation. Ms. Viney resides in Chilliwack. | |||||
Guy Heywood, BA, MBA, was appointed Lay Board Member on May 2, 2008 by the provincial government. Mr. Heywood has the responsibility of serving the public's interest on the CGA-BC Board. He is Managing Director of BMO's Corporate Finance division and a City of North Vancouver councillor. | |||||
Gordon Ruth, BA, FCGA, is CGA-BC's Chief Executive Officer and serves as Secretary of the Board. Mr. Ruth resides in Burnaby. | |||||
Past-Chairs, John Pankratz, BBA, FCGA, of Abbotsford and Stephen Spector, BA, MA, FCGA, of North Vancouver, have retired as members of the Board. Mr. Pankratz served as Chair in 2010 and Mr. Spector led the Association as Chair in 2009.
There are 15 elected members of the Board. These include one each representing the Lower Mainland region, the Southern Vancouver Island region, the Upper Vancouver Island region, the Northern Central region, the Kamloops/Okanagan region and the East/West Kootenays region (as specified above). The Lower Mainland region also provides for nine additional members of the Board to represent the membership at large (unless noted otherwise, the elected governors above represent the membership at large). In addition, there is one Lay Board member who represents the public and is appointed by the provincial government.

As the province's largest professional accounting association, CGA-BC represents nearly 15,000 CGAs and students. Members work in industry, commerce, government and in public practice. The Association promotes the excellence of its members and advances the accounting profession through education, certification and the protection of the public interest.
CGA-BC leads the profession in the integration of ethics into its academic program, and all new graduates of the CGA program are required to complete a rules and standards course to complement an ongoing ethics requirement for members.
The Association also offers a wide range of employment services and programs to its members, students and the business community.
