CGA-BC Announces its Board of Governors for 2014

VANCOUVER, Jan. 1, 2014 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) is pleased to announce its Board of Governors for 2014:
David Sale, DiplT, MBA, CPA, FCGA, has been elected Chair of the Association's Board of Governors for 2014. Mr. Sale is a professor of accounting at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He resides in Surrey.
Brian Friedrich, BA, MEd, CPA, FCGA, will serve as First Vice-Chair. Mr. Friedrich is a principal of friedrich & friedrich corporation, a consulting firm based in Surrey, where he resides.
Candace Nancke, CPA, FCGA, will serve as Past-Chair and Treasurer. Mrs. Nancke is the Managing Partner of Loren, Nancke & Company, Certified General Accountants in North Vancouver and New Westminster. She will also serve as Chair of the Association's Honours and Awards Committee in 2014. She resides in Coquitlam.
Dr. Heather Banham, MBA, DBA, CPA, CGA, is Dean of Business Administration and Commercial Aviation at Okanagan College. She was elected to the Board in 2010 and represents the Kamloops Okanagan region. She will chair the Association's Education Appeals Committee in 2014. Dr. Banham resides in Kelowna.
Stanley Chang, BSc, MBA, CISA, CPA, CGA, is the Acting Director, Credit Unions and Trusts in the Financial Institutions Commission, Ministry of Finance. He is also the sole practitioner of Stanley Chang, CGA, and an accounting instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He was elected to the Board in 2011 and represents the Lower Mainland region. He will serve as Chair of the Association's Audit Committee and serve on the Appeals Committee in 2014. Mr. Chang resides in Surrey.
Cindy Choi, BAccS, CPA, FCGA, is a Partner with Chan Choi & Company, Certified General Accountants in Victoria. She joined the Board in 2007 and represents the Southern Vancouver Island region. She will chair both the Association's Appeals Committee and the Practice Review Committee in 2014. Ms. Choi resides in Victoria.
Frank Claassen, CPA, CGA, is President of Claassen Partners Inc. He is newly elected to the Board and represents the Lower Mainland region. He will serve on the Association's Audit Committee in 2014. Mr. Klassen resides in Richmond.
Brian Ellis, CPA, CGA, works in the Small/Medium Enterprises area for the Canada Revenue Agency. He is newly elected to the Board and represents the Lower Mainland region. Mr. Ellis resides in New Westminster.
Rose Henri, BAccS, CPA, CGA, joined the Board in 2009 and represents the East/West Kootenay region. Ms. Henri resides in Castlegar.
Erica Knutsen, CPA, CGA, is newly elected to the Board and represents the Lower Mainland region. Ms. Knutsen resides in Port Moody.
Douglas Lang, CPA, CGA, is a Director for the Coastal Community Credit Union. He was appointed to the Board for 2014 and represents the Northern Vancouver Island region. Mr. Lang resides in Campbell River.
Kevin Lorenz, CPA, CGA, is Manager, Finance, for the Coast Mountains School District. He is newly elected to the Board and represents the Northern Central region. Mr. Lorenz resides in Terrace.
Michael McAdam, CPA, CGA, is President of Jigsaw Management Consulting Ltd. He joined the Board in 2008 and represents the Lower Mainland region. Mr. McAdam resides in Surrey.
Tom Senft, CPA, CGA, is Director of Finance for JD Sweid Foods. He is newly elected to the Board and represents the Lower Mainland region. Mr. Senft resides in Langley.
Ursula Viney, CPA, CGA, is the Executive Director for the Consumer Taxation Audit Branch of the Ministry of Finance. She was elected to the Board in 2011 and represents the Lower Mainland region. In 2014 she will chair the Association's Finance Committee. Ms. Viney resides in Chilliwack.
Guy Heywood, BA, MBA, was appointed Lay Board Member on May 2, 2008 by the provincial government. He has the responsibility of serving the public's interest on the CGA-BC Board. He will serve on the Appeals Committee in 2014. Mr. Heywood is Vice-President of Business Development for Bank of Montreal. He resides in North Vancouver.
Gordon Ruth, BA, CPA, FCGA, is CGA-BC's Chief Executive Officer and serves as Secretary of the Board. Mr. Ruth resides in Burnaby.
C.Y. Tay, CPA, CGA, Han Donker, PhD, CPA, CGA, Keon Kwan, CPA, CGA, Len Pietrzykowski, CPA, FCGA, and Mary Galaugher, CPA, CGA, have retired as members of the Board.
There are 15 elected members of the Board. These include 10 from the Lower Mainland and one each representing the Southern Vancouver Island Region, the Northern Vancouver Island Region, the Northern Central Region, the Kamloops Okanagan Region and the East/West Kootenay Region. In addition, there is one Lay Board member who represents the public and is appointed by the provincial government.
BC's professional accounting bodies, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC (ICABC), the Certified General Accountants Association of BC (CGA-BC), and the Certified Management Accountants Society of BC (CMABC), have signed a merger agreement and are working together to establish the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC (CPABC). Currently, accounting bodies representing all of Canada's professional accountants in every jurisdiction are committed to unification or have already merged under the CPA banner.
