FAIRFAX, VA, Aug. 22, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) announced today that the CONNECT Gateway has been tested and certified for use on the eHealth Exchange by The Sequoia Project. CONNECT is a dynamic open source platform that supports the secure exchange of health information for more than two thousand organizations in the U.S., including federal agencies, states, healthcare providers, insurers, and health IT vendors.
The Sequoia Project is a non-profit organization, chartered to advance the implementation of secure, interoperable nationwide health information exchange. Since 2012, The Sequoia Project has managed the eHealth Exchange, which has grown to become one of the largest health information exchange networks in the country.
Since 2010, CGI has partnered with U.S. Federal Health Architecture (FHA) on CONNECT, providing:
- program management
- development
- end-user support and training
- open source community management and support
The eHealth Exchange connects over 100 million patients through U.S. federal agencies like the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and non-federal organizations, including more than forty percent of hospitals in the U.S. The validation reflects years of successful collaboration between CGI, FHA and its federal partners to establish CONNECT as a robust and secure product.
"CONNECT is being widely used in the eHealth Exchange and is an open source, cost-effective solution for secure health information exchange," said CGI Vice President George Strader. "This certification is an important milestone and validates that CONNECT meets with the required specifications and facilitates interoperability, while reducing costs. We look forward to continuing to partner with FHA to support national health IT standards and interoperability across the federal health enterprise."
