LONGUEUIL, QC, Nov. 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that following a meeting with our partners at the Comité sur la mobilité des personnes et des biens de la région de Montréal, the committee and elected officials have decided that a reserved lane will once again be integrated on the Champlain Bridge in the morning.
The Corporation, in collaboration with the Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT), will implement this reserved lane beginning on the morning of Monday, November 18. It is very important to note that this lane will be integrated using one of the Montreal-bound traffic lanes.
This situation will have a significant impact on car traffic. We ask that everyone participate in encouraging public transit and carpooling.
Moreover, 7,300 seats have been added on public transit (train and metro lines) to compensate for the lane that is currently closed on the Champlain Bridge.
It is also important to note that the reserved lane on the Champlain Bridge will be extended into the evening in order to facilitate traffic flow. As well, for the return home, buses will continue to use the reserved lane on Marc-Cantin Street to facilitate their access to the bridge and avoid traffic on the Bonaventure Expressway.
A regular follow-up will be carried out with the AMT to validate this configuration and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the optimal passage of public transit in the current context.
A special lane configuration for rush hour periods will be set up as follows:
Morning rush hour
- Two lanes towards Montreal
- One dedicated bus lane (in the same direction as traffic)
- Two lanes towards the South Shore
Afternoon rush hour
- Two lanes towards Montreal
- One dedicated bus lane (in the opposite direction as usual)
- Two lanes towards the South Shore
Analyses and inspections will continue to take place throughout the work and will enable us to closely follow how the situation progresses. We invite you to follow this priority reinforcement work currently underway at www.champlainbridge.ca.
