LONGUEUIL, QC, May 21, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that the second Blitz of major work will take place in the Champlain Corridor, from Friday, May 23, at 9:00 p.m. to Sunday, May 25, at 5:00 a.m.
This second weekend of major work of the 2014 season will allow us to work day and night on various projects on the A-15, the île des Sœurs Bridge, and the Champlain Bridge.
As the work planned on the Champlain Bridge will occur towards Montréal and not the South-Shore, the configuration of lanes for this Blitz will not allow us to complete the removal of the super beam. This operation will take place later in another spring Blitz. Consult our 2014 Work Calendar.
Details of the closures in the Champlain Corridor
During this period, a single lane will be open towards Montréal and towards the South Shore on A-15 and on the Champlain Bridge.
Since no road work is planned this weekend for A-Bonaventure in both directions, this access is an excellent choice to get to Montréal or the Champlain Bridge.
It is important to note that the lane width will be reduced to 3 metres during this period on the A-15 in both directions. Trucks that require wider lanes will have to use alternate routes.
Several on- and off-ramps will also be closed during this period to access and exit the bridge:
- Closure of the access ramp to A-15 South from Atwater
- Closure of the access ramp to Champlain Bridge coming from Route 132 West and East
- Closure of Exit 60 on the A-15 North to A-Bonaventure and Verdun
We invite you to refer to our presentation to see all the access and exit ramps that will be closed while this work takes place, as well as the detours that will be set up. As well, the speed limit on the network will be reduced to 50 km/h.
Road users are encouraged to avoid the Champlain Bridge corridor, where traffic will be particularly heavy, and instead use the Jacques Cartier, Victoria or Honoré Mercier Bridges, as well as the Louis Hippolyte Lafontaine Bridge-Tunnel, to access or leave the island of Montreal.
Also note this work may be postponed due to weather conditions. A notice will be posted on our blog (champlainbridge.ca) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. according to the weather forecast to advise road users whether or not the work will take place.
For île des Sœurs residents
For residents of île des Sœurs, we recommand strongly to take the A-Bonaventure to go out or coming to the island.
It's important to note that the access towards the A-15 Nord from l'île des Sœurs will be completly closed all weekend.
It will be possible to go out from île des Sœurs by taking the access ramp of the A-15 South or A-Bonaventure. Access to Montréal will be easier by A-Bonaventure.
All the access towards île des Sœurs including Exit 57-S and Exit 57-N of A-15 South, Exit 57 of A-15 North and Exit 5 of A-Bonaventure will be open during the Blitz.
