Champlain Corridor: Weekend work BLITZES continue - Second weekend of major work on May 4 and 5

LONGUEUIL, QC, April 30, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) Corporation advises drivers that the second weekend work BLITZ on the Champlain Corridor will begin Friday, May 3, at 10 p.m. and continue until Monday, May 6, at 5 a.m.

The installation of road signs will begin on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. towards North and 8:30 p.m. towards South, causing the closure of a first lane.

During the weekend, a single lane on Highway 15 North and South located at the entrance of the bridge on the Montreal side (including the île des Sœurs Bridge), will be open. On the Champlain Bridge, only one lane for Montreal bound traffic and two lanes for South Shore bound traffic will be open.

No work is scheduled this weekend on the Bonaventure Expressway, which could be a good alternative to access the Champlain Bridge when arriving via Downtown Montreal.

It is important to note that during this period the width of lanes on the A-15 and the Champlain Bridge will be reduced to 3 meters in both directions. Trucks exceeding this width will have to take alternative routes.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the Champlain Corridor and take the Jacques-Cartier, Victoria, or Honoré-Mercier Bridges or the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel to access or leave the Island of Montreal.

Note that this work may be postponed depending on weather conditions. A notice will be posted on our blog (www.champlainbridge.ca) every Friday at 3:30 p.m. to advise drivers if the work will go ahead, depending on the weather forecast.

Several access and exit ramps to access or exit the bridge will also be closed during this period. We encourage you to consult our map to see all of the ramps that will be closed during the work. In addition, one of the two service lanes on Route 132 E. will be closed over the weekend and the speed limit on the network will be reduced to 50 km/h.

2013 Work Planning

A reminder that major work on the Champlain Corridor will take place during intensive weekend BLITZES. This will involve several different contractors working around the clock at various places on the bridge, the A15, and the île des Sœurs Bridge.

This work will occur over three to five weekends from late April to late June, depending on weather conditions and how the work progresses. Once again, this year's objective is to minimize the number of weekends required to complete the projects.

The Corporation will take advantage of these weekends to repair the roadway, carry out paving work, and replace expansion joints.
