Change of the guard at the presidency and vice-presidency at the Montreal Firefighters Association Français
MONTREAL, July 10, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Following the retirement of Mr. Ronald Martin, Mr. Chris Ross officially became President of the Montreal Firefighters Association. Ross, who had previously held the position of Vice-President, was elected unopposed after an election period that was concluded a few days ago.
"It is in a spirit of continuity that we will continue to defend the acquired rights of the 2,400 Montreal firefighters in light of the constant changes that affect our professional environment," said Mr. Ross today, praising the scope and quality of the work conducted by his predecessor.
"I am retiring with a sense of accomplishment, and my commitment to the professional firefighter's fraternity remains intact and unwavering," said Martin, after a 31-year career in the Montreal Fire Department. In recent years, this path has been punctuated by epic battles, in particular, the imposition of Bill 15 by the Couillard government on the sustainability of municipal employee pension plans.
The new president of the APM was sworn in during a special union council meeting. Richard Lafortune becomes vice-president of the Association, after having held the position of union director for District 12 of the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal for several years.
The entry into office of Messrs. Ross and Lafortune is immediate.
