WINDSOR, ON, Oct. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - On October 3rd, 2012, members of the Windsor RCMP Detachment Team conducted an investigation into the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products. As a result of the investigation, two Windsor men were arrested and charged with the sale and distribution of contraband tobacco from a vehicle in the area of Wyandotte Street East.
Seized were 44 cartons of unstamped tobacco, a 2002 Hyundai vehicle and a small amount of currency.
"Anytime we can stop illegal activities such as the sale of contraband tobacco it reinforces our commitment to safe streets and communities through the active enforcement of the laws of Canada" stated Cpl. Anne Garneau of the Windsor RCMP Detachment Team.
Charged under the Excise Act 2001 and Criminal Code are:
Adel Ali RAHIMEH (Age 45) of Niagara Street, Windsor
Charges: Sec 216 (1)(a) Excise Act 2001, Sec 214 Excise Act 2001 and Sec 355 (b) Criminal Code .
Talih Ibraham KHANAFER (Age 33) of Dufferin Street, Windsor
Charges : Sec 216 (1)(a) Excise Act 2001.
They are schedule to appear in court on Nov 5th.
