OTTAWA, Feb. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) welcomed officials from Hydro Ottawa this morning to present $90,980 to the Max Keeping Fund for Kids as a result of its most recent Go Paperless campaign.
Hydro Ottawa's initiative, which ran from August to December 2015, offered a $5 donation to the Fund for every customer who registered for E-billing. Another $5 was donated for every customer who registered in the Pre-Authorized Payment Plan.
"Max Keeping was a storyteller, community volunteer and hero. We are grateful and humbled to help contribute to his legacy with funds raised by our customers through our Go Paperless campaign. By supporting this initiative and Max's tireless activism, our customers made a positive difference in the lives of children and families in need. Max's story will continue to be told at CHEO and no doubt inspire future volunteers and heroes. We are just happy to be a small part of it today," said Hydro Ottawa President and CEO, Bryce Conrad.
To help celebrate Hydro Ottawa's gift, CHEO unveiled a display in the lobby of the Max Keeping Wing that pays tribute to one of CHEO's greatest ambassadors, the late Max Keeping.
Mayor Jim Watson participated in the presentation of the display, which features the City of Ottawa flag that was lowered to half-mast after Mr. Keeping's passing on October 1, 2015, as well as a letter penned by the mayor in tribute. This display will be a reminder of Max's unrelenting efforts to help our hospital.
"Combining Hydro Ottawa's cheque presentation with the unveiling of this wonderful tribute to Max Keeping seemed a very natural thing to do," said CHEO Foundation President and CEO Kevin Keohane. "Hydro Ottawa's efforts and the resulting outcome will make a difference for families whose lives have been disrupted by their children's health challenges. Some of these families not only have to deal with their child being sick, but also from the stress of not having the financial means to cover some of the medial expenses. Our thanks go out to everyone at Hydro Ottawa and its customers. The Go Paperless campaign is in perfect harmony with what Max had in mind when he created the Max Keeping Fund for Kids at CHEO. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate Hydro Ottawa's efforts in this very special way."
The Max Keeping Fund for Kids helps CHEO families who need assistance covering expenses related to their child's medical care. These expenses include travel, lodging, or specialized treatment or equipment that are not covered, or only partially covered, by other sources.
