MONTREAL, Dec. 4, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12 & SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13, Chez Doris a day shelter for women, located at 1430 Chomedey Street in Montreal will host its first ever open house for the public. A year ago, the public rallied behind Chez Doris to provide its financial support so that it may re-open its weekend services. While it is back on its feet, financial support from the community is needed on an on-going basis.
During the open house, caseworkers will discuss our many programs including our financial administration program and services for the Inuit community, which includes visitation services at a detention center. As well, on display will be the "Where Do You Sleep?" exhibition held at City Hall last November. The exhibit will feature eight photographers varying works which explores their visions of homelessness. The photography intimately delves into the world of living on the edge while maintaining an aesthetic balance for a gallery quality exhibition. Each photographer provided two original images representing the given theme. These gallery quality prints will be available for purchase, with the proceeds being donated to Chez Doris.
Visitors are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or other necessities and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and take a tour of Chez Doris by one of its caseworkers. Mittens and other items made by the ladies of Chez Doris will also be sold. Our Christmas tree will be adorned with ornaments each of which will include a woman's wish to be fulfilled. All proceeds collected from the photos and arts & craft projects will support Chez Doris' Christmas festivities, New Year's brunch and other programs for its clientele.
