OTTAWA, June 02, 2015 /CNW/ - Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC) has announced that it will serve as National Sponsor of Canada Day in the nation's capital. This will be the 23rd year as National Sponsor for this organization, which represents Canada's 2,700 chicken farmers across all provinces in Canada.
At a press conference yesterday, alongside Canadian Heritage Minister, Shelly Glover, CFC's Executive Director, Mike Dungate, also announced the artists who will be appearing at the Noon and Evening Shows on Parliament Hill.
Responding to growing demands from consumers to know where their food comes from, Dungate also promoted the "Raised by a Canadian Farmer" chicken campaign, a branding program showcasing the commitment of farmers to provide families with nutritious chicken raised to the highest standards of care, quality, and freshness.
"From coast to coast, Canada's 2,700 chicken farmers are proud to raise the quality chicken that Canadians can trust," says Dungate.
Dungate also revealed the winning sandwich for the 23rd Great Canadian Chicken BBQ on Canada Day in Major's Hill Park. Thousands of Facebook voters chose "The Preston Street Sandwich" as their recipe of choice to be served to over 10,000 hungry visitors to "Chicken Corner" in a vote that took place throughout the month of May.
Fifty cents from the sale of each chicken item at the BBQ will support the Ottawa Food Bank, building on the partnership between that organization and Chicken Farmers of Canada which has raised over $300,000 in the last 7 years.
"Chicken Farmers of Canada is absolutely committed to giving something back to the beautiful country that gives so much to us," says Dungate, "We are proud to support such an important and worthwhile cause."
