Child Amputees discuss "what bugs them" at War Amps Vancouver Seminar
VANCOUVER, March 24, 2013 /CNW/ - War Amps Champs - members of the Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program -- embrace a positive approach to growing up with an amputation, but there are still times when they need to talk about "what bugs them."
"What Bugs Me," taking place at 9 am today in the Stanley Park Room of Vancouver's Westin Bayshore Hotel (1601 Bayshore Drive), is the closing session of The War Amps 2013 BC CHAMP Seminar.
In this open forum session, Champs talk about difficult issues they encounter like teasing, staring and "too many questions." Older Champs who are Junior Counsellors talk about how they handled these issues themselves growing up, and offer helpful advice.
"The kids love this session. It's their chance to share experiences and help each other find solutions," says War Amps spokesperson Rob Larman. "They also learn that they have a special role in educating others about amputation. Parents tell us that the kids leave the seminar with their 'batteries charged' and with renewed strength in dealing with life as an amputee."
Media are welcome to attend this session, or interviews can be arranged at any time.
