Children's Wish Waiting at Targa Finish Line!

ST. JOHN'S, Sept. 17 /CNW/ - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada will be waiting at the finish line today for Team Wishful Thinking, one of the competing teams in the Targa Newfoundland Race. Children's Wish is there to cheer on the team and gratefully accept the over $100,000 cheque Team Wishful Thinking has raised in support of Children's Wish.

Team Wishful Thinking race team is comprised of Adam Hill, CEO of Omni Companies and Mark Kostick, Dealer Principal of Sherwood Kia in Edmonton, Alberta. The pair spearheaded this fundraising campaign, soliciting sponsorship for the race vehicle and Kia has donated a 2010 Kia Forte Koup that will be auctioned off following the race.

"Targa Newfoundland presented the perfect opportunity for us to combine our passion for motorsport with our core value of giving back to the community," said Adam Hill. "When evaluating charities, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada was an obvious choice. Helping make wishes come true for children who have experienced life-threatening illnesses is a cause we felt instantly compelled to support. We are extremely honoured to be presenting a cheque for over $100,000 to Children's Wish."

Director of Development Linda Marco, of the national office of The Children's Wish Foundation, will be on hand to accept the cheque.

"We are privileged to accept this generous donation. The Children's Wish Foundation has granted over 16,000 wishes since our beginnings in 1984. Team Wishful Thinking is making a significant contribution in assisting us grant the most heart-felt wishes to children. In 2009, the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter granted 30 wishes and have already granted 18 this year with 27 more in progress," Marco said.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.  Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 16,000 children and their families.

This year, the Foundation expects to grant 1,000 new wishes and is proud to have never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day.  Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. The Foundation is a grassroots charity with chapters in every province and territory. The Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter was started in 1986 and has granted over 552 wishes to date.
