CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY TO DISTILLERY DISTRICT
Toronto Christmas Market Receives $75,000 Grant from Celebrate Ontario
To Host First Ever Traditional European-styled Festival
TORONTO, Oct 5 /CNW/ - The City's first authentic European-styled Christmas Market found a present under its tree recently from the Ontario government, in the form of a $75,000 grant from Celebrate Ontario. The provincial funding helps increase the economic potential of new and existing tourism festivals and events and it will help organizers of the Toronto Christmas Market create the city's newest holiday tradition.
Inspired by the Old World and influenced by the New, the Toronto Christmas Market will be held annually in December in the city's historic Distillery District. Forged in the spirit of the great Christmas markets of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France, the Toronto version will capture the tradition, heritage and romance of these iconic European markets, while showcasing the best artisanal products of Toronto and its surrounding regions.
This year's Toronto Christmas Market at The Distillery will run from December 3-12, 2010.
"The Toronto Christmas Market will quickly become one of the City's most enduring holiday traditions," promises the festival's organizer and partner of Cityscape Development Corp, Matthew Rosenblatt. "We expect over forty thousand visitors will attend and enjoy the range of unique products and crafts, the family friendly entertainment and the exotic menu of beers, sweets, and both local and international specialty foods."
While people of all ages will enjoy the Market's family-friendly programming during the day, at night the Toronto Christmas Market will feature more sophisticated fare and entertainment, appealing to holiday revelers looking for a more mature experience.
"The sights, sounds, aromas and tastes of the Market will evoke Christmases both familiar and exotic," says Matthew Rosenblatt. "The distinctive smells of mulled wine, the taste of home-cooked gingerbread, the sounds of carolers and Bavarian brass bands, the ornaments and lighting, all within the intimate setting of the Distillery District's revitalized Victorian architecture, will create a new Christmas tradition as beloved as Santa himself."
