OTTAWA, June 14, 2016 /CNW/ - The Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Janet Davidson, officer of the Order of Canada (OC), as the new chair of our Board of Directors, effective immediately. She has served on CIHI's Board of Directors as vice chair since 2014 and as a representative for Ontario, the Prairies and Canada at large since 2010.
Ms. Davidson is presently working in health care consulting and most recently served as deputy minister of Health in Alberta. She has more than 40 years' health care management experience in the voluntary, hospital and government sectors in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Ms. Davidson has been extensively involved in global humanitarian work and served for 10 years in a senior governance capacity with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Geneva. She is an officer of the Order of Canada, a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders and was recently appointed a Senior Fellow with the C.D. Howe Institute. Ms. Davidson graduated as a nurse from the Toronto East General Hospital, has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Windsor and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta. She is a graduate of the Directors Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors and the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and of the Global Health Leadership program of the University of California, Berkeley's School of Public Health; she also has an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Windsor. Ms. Davidson has been named twice to the list of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women, and was also named twice as one of Canada's Top 25 Most Influential Women.

Ms. Davidson succeeds Dr. Brian Postl, who served as CIHI's Board chair for the past 6 years, as vice chair from 2007 to 2010, and as a Region 2 (Prairies) representative from 2001 to 2005.
