CIJA Commends Court Decision on CAF Funding
OTTAWA, Jan. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - On December 23rd, the Federal Court upheld the government's decision to deny funding to the Canadian Arab Federation (CAF). In his ruling, Justice Russel Zinn stated that "statements and actions…reasonably lead one to the view that CAF appears to support organizations that Canada has declared to be terrorist organizations and which are arguably anti-Semitic."
In response, Shimon Koffler Fogel, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), issued the following statement:
"We commend the court for its decision. Given CAF's clear record of glorifying terror groups and spewing hateful rhetoric, Minister Kenney was right to deny it public funding. It's particularly disturbing to think that an organization that holds views so diametrically opposed to Canada's values was given a mandate to integrate new Canadians."
As the non-partisan advocacy arm of the Jewish Federations of Canada, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) serves as the voice of the organized Canadian Jewish community.
