CIJA Condemns Hamas Missile Fire
TORONTO, July 7, 2014 /CNW/ - Over the past 24 hours, at least 80 missiles and mortars have been fired at Israel from Gaza, including 60 in less than one hour. Hamas has claimed responsibility for these attacks, which – in targeting civilian communities – constitute war crimes under international law.
In response, CIJA Chair David Koschitzky issued the following statement:
"Today, one million Israelis were forced to live under incessant and indiscriminate missile fire from Hamas in Gaza. In the wake of heightened tensions after the horrific murders of three Israeli teens and a Palestinian teen, it is clear that Hamas is cynically attempting to provoke an all-out war.
"Hamas' decision to escalate the situation threatens Israelis and Palestinians alike. We call on the international community to demand an immediate halt to missile fire and insist that Mahmoud Abbas end his unity agreement with Hamas."
