Cindy Gouveia appointed President of George Brown College Foundation
TORONTO, May 5, 2015 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of the George Brown College Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Cindy Gouveia as President.
With more than 20 years of management experience in the public and private sectors, Cindy will lead the Foundation through its next phase of growth. She was most recently the Foundation's Chief Development Officer, where she played a key role in the ongoing Success at Work campaign. The single largest fundraising campaign of the George Brown College Foundation, it has raised $25 million to date. Prior to joining the George Brown College Foundation, Cindy worked within the college's Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts as a senior liaison with industry.
"Energetic and results-driven, Cindy has a track record of developing partnerships and building relationships with industry and in the broader community," said Doug Turnbull, Chair of the George Brown College Foundation Board of Directors. "Cindy's leadership will help George Brown students to succeed by connecting donors to meaningful ways they can make a difference – whether through tuition assistance, improved infrastructure or enhanced programming."
Cindy holds an MBA from the University of Guelph and is currently enrolled in the PhD program at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. In 2013, she was recognized by Ontario's broader college community with the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association's emerging leader award. Access to education is central to the vision she brings to her leadership role at the Foundation.
"Students and prospective students face a range of barriers – including financial, academic, geographic and socioeconomic – that can affect not only their ability to access post-secondary education, but also their success during their studies," said Gouveia. "Support from our donors means that that more students have the resources they need to achieve their goals, such as tuition assistance, academic upgrading or support programs. I'm looking forward to working with donors to change the lives of George Brown students."
